Requirements

What you need before installing S+M VoIP for EspoCRM, with 3CX or Twilio for calls and Twilio for texts.

Updated October 15, 2026 View as Markdown

S+M VoIP for EspoCRM brings calls and texts into EspoCRM: the caller's record pops up while the phone rings, calls are logged on the right record, a Call button dials from any Contact, Lead or Account, recordings play inside the CRM, and texts (SMS/MMS) are sent and received from the record. In EspoCRM's Administration it appears as S+M EspoCRM VOIP.

EspoCRM

  • EspoCRM 9 or 10 (tested with 9.0, 9.2 and 10.0), PHP 8.1 or newer, MariaDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Administration → Settings → Site URL must be your CRM's public https:// address, for example https://crm.example.com. 3CX and Twilio reach the CRM there, and the license is tied to it.
  • EspoCRM's cron must run: the extension renews its license, imports new Twilio numbers and tidies up once a day.
  • The CRM must be able to reach https://licenses.sapiensandmachines.com to renew its license.

Calls: 3CX or Twilio

Choose one phone system for calls:

  • 3CX (version 20). For recordings and the ringing pop-up in EspoCRM, 3CX's API (XAPI and Call Control) must be available on your 3CX license. Agents use 3CX's web client or app. See Connect 3CX.
  • Twilio, with any SIP softphone (for example Zoiper), and optionally the browser phone inside EspoCRM. Who rings, ring time, voicemail and hours are set in Twilio Studio. See Connect Twilio.

Texts: Twilio

Texts always go through Twilio: you need a Twilio account and numbers that can send SMS/MMS. In the US, business texting must be registered with the carriers (10DLC for local numbers, verification for toll-free numbers); do that in the Twilio console before texting customers.

A license

A free 30-day trial or a subscription, from your S+M account. See License and trial.
